EXPRESS Passenger Stairs - Passenger stairs for narrow body aircraft

EXPRESS Passenger Stairs. Aircraft passenger baording stairs from Adaptive Egineering Inc.

Manual passenger stairs for mid-height jets

The Express Stairs are unlike conventional manually moved or truck-mounted passenger stairs. Adaptive Engineering USA LLC is known for innovative GSE products, and the stairs show this innovation in every detail. The Express Stairs covers a range of planes from the MD-80 to the A321.

A unique emphasis on safety

The passenger feels safe on the stairs because of the wide tread and the stable structure. It isn't just a feeling - these stairs are designed so they won't overturn in high wind, in response to real incidents of passenger stairs overturning. This stability protects passengers and airline employees and prevents serious liability problems. The Express Stairs meet the stringent wind load requirement from the FAA of stability up to 90 mph wind or jet blast.

Not truck mounted

The stairs are a sophisticated version of passenger stairs without the costs of truck-mounted stairs. Fine positioning of the stairs at the aircraft is possible because of the manual movement and the plane isn't exposed to the risk of using powered equipment close to the fuselage. Height adjustment for load or a different aircraft uses a single operation.

EXPRESS Passenger Stairs. Adjustable height to service a wide variety of aircraft.

Reliability and appearance

The Express Stairs have a long service life and an always-up design. The combination of simplicity and sophistication in the mechanisms ensures low equipment failure and low maintenance. The design doesn't use any hydraulic or electric components, which eliminates the most common cause of equipment or weather-related failures. Aluminum construction protects against rust and corrosion, so the stairs don't need paint and they continue to look attractive over time. Handrails have a polymer covering for appearance and feel, so passengers' hands don't contact bare metal.

Variable height

The Express Stair is compatible with the A321, A320, A319, A318, 737, 727, 717, MD80 and DC9. The upper platform height for the stairs raises and lowers to interface with a range of aircraft.

Features and safety items

  • Aircraft is protected from damage because all contact points are bumpered
  • Stair height can be adjusted for plane load to meet exactly with the plane door
  • Outriggers deploy from each side, back and front, to ensure safe and stable passenger loading operations operation
  • Industrial-duty foam-filled tires
  • Upper handrails retract for aircraft door to swing open
  • Four-inch foam bumper on platform to protect fuselage
  • Can be used as passenger stair or service stair at rear door
